Rapper Shayaa Bin Abraham-Joseph, a.k.a 21 Savage, has been arrested on charges of immigration. According to the officials, he is originally from the UK and had spent almost 12 years of his life there before coming to the US in July 2005. After coming to the US, he could not go back to his homeland when his visa expired.
A spokesperson from the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) said that the 26-year-old was being held for removal proceedings though he had described his childhood in Atlanta, earlier in some interviews. In one such interview, he shared how he got expelled from school in Atlanta for carrying a gun to class when he was 12 or 13. On the other hand, a CNN reporter tweeted an ICE spokesperson’s quote on the rapper, which read: “His whole public persona is false. He actually came to the U.S from the U.K as a teen and overstayed his visa.”
According to the ICE, 21 Savage was detained in Georgia for illegally staying in the US. A spokesperson said that the officials are awaiting a judge’s ruling before deciding the correct measure to proceed for the charges pressed against Savage including the 2014 drug charges.
The detention of the rapper has taken Atlanta by shock as people enjoyed his songs and other noble activities. It could be comprehended from his lyrics that he had a disturbed upbringing amidst guns and drugs in Atlanta which was not questioned until now. However, citizens are definitely confused upon learning about the arrest of the rapper and his roots in the UK.
