Messi could not inspire Barcelona to victory over Athletic Bilbao at San Mames after returning to Barca’s starting XI. Ernesto Valverde, the Barca boss emphasized not to worry about the skipper, however, suggestions show that the Argentine is not completely fit.
Messi returned to the Blaugrana on Sunday night but could not secure a favourable position for the team against Bilbao, resulting in a goalless match.
The match marked the third draw for the Catalans however, the attention was on Barca’s failure. It is known that Lionel Messi has been suffering from an injured thigh. This injury has made him a substitute against Real Madrid in the Copa del Rey semi-final.
When the Blaugrana boss was asked about the injury to his number 10, he promptly replied back saying: “Messi is fine and he has played at 100 per cent.” He added: “He has had some difficulties because we had them as a collective, but when he plays it is because I’m absolutely convinced everything is fine.”
Barca began the weekend being ahead in the game with a six-point lead but the number has not changed yet. Valverde was confident with the six points but somewhere he showed concern saying: “we must keep winning games from now until the end of the season.”
