Unai Emery has eased £26million summer signing Lucas Torreira into life at Arsenal.
But now the Spaniard must make the Uruguayan international a mainstay in the Gunners’ midfield.
That’s the view of former Arsenal defender Martin Keown, who was left in no doubt about the diminutive schemer after he made his full debut in the Europa League win over Vorskla.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang bagged a brace, with Danny Welbeck and Mesut Ozil also scoring in a 4-2 victory.
Arsenal were 3-0 up and cruising when Torreira came off the field after 57 minutes.
And with Everton on the horizon on Sunday, Keown says that whole Matteo Guendouzi has done well thus far, Torreira’s time has arrived.
“Guendouzi has come into that midfield and you have to say he’s played with a lot of heart and a lot of spirit for a youngster.
“There is ingredients from his game that has been missing from the team, but Torreira, surely, has to come in now.
“He is very tenacious and always seeks the pass. You have to be able to pass a ball, you have to be able to make the moves and you have done it.
“Arsenal needs a player like that to show that level of commitment.”
