James Ward and Jay Clarke failed to reach the second qualifying round

The British Tennis Player, Jay Clarke was beaten by Alejandro Davidovich Fokina in the French Open’s first qualifying round. Clarke lost at 2-6 7-6 (5) 6-1 to the Spaniard. Alejandro is currently ranked at 133th in the world.

Another Briton, James Ward, suffered a crushing defeat by Oscar Otte of Germany. While the Great Britain’s number five, James Ward ranks 169th in the international chart of tennis players, Otte is 24 notches above him.

Fourth-ranked Briton Clarke started off pretty well in the opening set. After a 4-1 down of the second set, Clarke took a lead with 6-5. However, he faltered on a tie-break, which made Davidovich Fokina the obvious victor.

With Ward and Clarke failing to reach the second qualifying round, the French Open has Dan Evans, Kyle Edmund and Cameron Norrie as the only male British players.

On another note, Dustin Brown, the Jamaican-German who defeated Rafael Nadal in 2015’s Wimbledon is all set to play in the second qualifying round of the French Open. He won 7-6 (7-5) 6-1 against Denis Istomin, the Uzbek tennis player.

Tommy Robredo, the world number five and one of the senior players in the tournament lost at 7-6 (7-5) 6-3 to Rudolf Molleker, an eighteen year old German tennis player.
