DAVID PRICE has revealed the shocking extent of the damage he suffered during his loss to Alexander Povetkin on Saturday.
Price battled on the undercard of Anthony Joshua’s clash with Joseph Parker at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium.
And the Liverpudlian put on arguably the fight of the night as he knocked Povetkit across the ring and made him crash into the corner early on.
However, the WBA champion responded with a deadly right hook which dropped Price’s guard before finishing him with a brutal left which sent the 34-year-old crashing onto the canvas.
Price suffered a fractured nose and required over 40 stitches from the knockout blow – but he still says he was proud of his thrilling performance.
“I had a fractured nose, had 30 stitches in my mouth and about 12 stitches on my eyes,” Price told TalkSport.
“After the fight, I got checked over in the medical room at the stadium, and they said it would be better to just go to hospital.
“I agreed, to be safe, and they gave me the all-clear.
“I’m proud of my performance.
“I gave everything I had to give, and I came close, closer than the knockout made it look.”
Povetkin is now considered next in line to challenge Joshua for his WBA title.
