Arsenal have been linked with a move for Boca Juniors striker Cristian Pavon as they prepare to replace wantaway Alexis Sanchez.
Pavon has a £27million release clause in his deal at Boca and according to Argentine broadcaster TyC Sports, Arsene Wenger is willing to meet it.
The 21-year-old has won a pair of international caps for Argentina and is in contention to make their squad for this summer’s World Cup in Russia.
He has recently been finalising his dual citizenship in Italy, which means his European passport will allay any work permit fears.
Sanchez continues to be linked with a move to Manchester City this month and Pavon would be seen as a like-for-like replacement.
What Pep said about Sanchez when he signed him for Barca
Pep Guardiola is very keen on wantaway Arsenal forward Alexis Sanchez.
And it seems Arsene Wenger is coming to terms with the idea of letting the Chilean go for a measly £20million in favour of seeing him walk away from the north London club at the end of the season on a free.
The Gunners boss would rather make £30million from the sale of Sanchez, but it seems Manchester City have all the power in this particular transfer tug-of-war.
Regardless of whether the Citizens hold out on their first offer – which has yet to be made – or cough up the extra £10million to land the 29-year-old, at £30million he will be an absolute steal – especially on the back of Philippe Coutinho’s £142million move to Barcelona.
Iwobi trains after ‘party’ claims
Alex Iwobi has trained with Arsenal today despite reports of late night partying ahead of the FA Cup defeat to Nottingham Forest.
The Nigerian was pictured in the early hours of Friday at a party , which appeared to impact his abject performance two days later.
Iwobi’s involvement in the Carabao Cup semi-final vs Chelsea is now in question, with Wenger clearly riled by the incident.
“Yes, if that is true, he will be fined,” Wenger admitted. “It is impossible to go out 48 hours before a game. It’s unacceptable. I will have to of course see him to see if that is right or not.
