Amir Khan next fight: Could Brit face Kell Brook, Manny Pacquiao or even Conor McGregor?

Written by admin

Amir Khan will return to action for the first time in nearly two years on April 21

The Brit last fought in May 2016 when he was knocked out by Canelo Alvarez in Las Vegas, the fourth defeat of his 35-fight professional career.

Khan has since had surgery on a troublesome hand, been through a split and reconciliation with his wife Faryal Makhdoom and most recently appeared on “I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!”.

However, he has now signed a three-fight deal with Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom Boxing and will seal his return to action with a bout on April 21.

Liverpool’s Echo Arena will play host to the event but Hearn is yet to announce an opponent.

And bookmakers Betfair have installed British rival Kell Brook as the 1/4 favourite to feature as his opponent – despite the fact he is scheduled to fight Sergey Rabchenko just seven weeks before.

Former super-lightweight world champion Adrien Broner has also been mooted as a 3/1 shot with a challenge to Errol Spence Jr’s IBF welterweight title looking far less likely at 40/1.

Hearn even mentioned a possible super-fight against Manny Pacquiao, but that has been listed as a 50/1 outsider along with a remarkable clash against UFC crossover star Conor McGregor.

But Khan’s new promoter remains confident in being able to attract some massive fights for his latest charge.

“Amir is one of the biggest names in the sport of boxing and his return on April 21 will be the first time he has boxed in the UK in seven years,” Hearn said.

“The plan is to box in April and then again in August or September in preparation for a super-fight in winter 2018.

“The target is to provide him with the biggest fights possible with a mouth-watering list of names including the likes of Manny Pacquiao, Kell Brook, Keith Thurman and Errol Spence.

“I’m excited to get started and looking forward to a huge night of boxing on April 21.”
